These terms apply when you use ChannelText (the website, the API and the MCP server). By creating an account you accept them. Last updated 2026-09-26.

What ChannelText does

ChannelText gets the captions YouTube publishes for public videos, playlists and channels and gives them to you as text and subtitle files. It does not run speech recognition: a video without captions has no transcript. Results depend on what YouTube makes available at the time of the request. ChannelText is not affiliated with YouTube or Google.

Your account

Use a real email address you can read and keep your password and API keys secret. You are responsible for what is done with your account and your keys; revoke a key on your account page if it leaks.

Prices and payment

• ChannelText works with a prepaid balance in US dollars. Each delivered transcript costs $0.008 and is taken from the balance when the job ends. Videos without a transcript (no captions, private, removed, blocked, outside your dates or over your limit) cost nothing. There is no subscription and no free sample.
• You add balance in $10 top-ups. Payments are processed by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record: Polar sells the top-up to you, takes the payment, charges any sales tax or VAT and issues the invoice. Polar's own terms apply to the purchase.
• Before a job starts, the most it can cost is shown and reserved from your balance; you are charged only for what is delivered and the rest is released. A job never takes more videos than your balance covers.

Acceptable use

Use ChannelText lawfully. Transcripts belong to the people who made the videos: check that you have the right to use a transcript before you republish it. Do not try to get around the limits or the billing, overload the service, or create accounts automatically. We may suspend an account that does; any unused balance is then refunded.

Availability and liability

We work to keep ChannelText running and correct, but it is provided as it is, without a guarantee that every video will have a transcript or that the service will always be available. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
